My wife Kelli and I started our dairy nutrition business in the spring of 1984.

In the beginning we sold Vita Ferm products, which consisted of minerals, vitamins and Amaferm. It was a big challenge for me as I didn’t have much sales experience.

Within a few months I could see that we needed to provide nutrition consulting service rather than our business being solely based on selling a nutrition supplement.

Mike Blum a representative of Biozyme Inc., the VitaFerm/Amaferm suppliers taught me how to balance a milking cow ration using a calculator and a spreadsheet on a piece of paper.

As this was slow and tedious I felt compelled to find a better way. I met with my cousin, a computer genius and he taught me how I could use a computer spreadsheet to balance the ration. I believe the first computer I used was an Atari.

The advances in technology are almost unbelievable to me. Today we use computer software known as “Rumen Model Software” based on a system from Cornell.

We have served dairies in Colorado, Nevada, Utah, Maryland and Idaho.

Several clients have been with us for more than 20 years.

My father was very helpful through training me in my youth and giving encouragement to embark in this business along with the loaning of a truck to get started.

You know how at times you don’t realize how much your parents actually help you or how much they know, well as we got into this business I found out that my father went to college with and was good friends with one of the top dairy nutrition scientists in the world, Tal Huber, who was a great mentor and helper to us.

Credit is certainly due to my dear mother who taught me everything a mother should teach a son.

My older brother was also a great support and help.

I could never and I repeat never have done this without my wife Kelli. Her help, encouragement and support has been udderly amazing.

As seems to be common to many small family owned businesses we have had many ups and downs during our years in business but more ups than downs as we are still here.

We feel very blessed and acknowledge our Creator as the giver of all blessings.
